:: packing my bags ::

One of my missions for this week is to finish packing my hospital bag. Because we are delivering with midwives, it is likely we will be discharged a couple of hours after Baby C's arrival on the scene. However, if anything goes not as planned we might end up staying overnight....

I am struggling to pack everything I need without falling into my regular trap of packing for a month away when I am only going on a day trip! Here are some must-have items I have in there already on the recommendation of friends....anything else to add?

- gatorade and snacks to keep our energy up
- lip balm
- warm socks
- black undies (3 pairs)
- change of clothes for daddy
- camera and extra batteries
- toiletries for a shower afterwards
- comfy going-home outfit for mom
- nipple cream (I am going to buy the Earth Mama Angel Baby one - friends give it rave reviews!)
- diapers and a couple outfits for baby

-Baby name book - for just in case! So glad I packed mine because the name we thought was the one just wasn't.
- I wore a comfortable sports bra to the hospital. I didn't want to be totally naked. It worked out really well.

Maybe a CD that you enjoy or find soothing!? Although, if you are anything like me, I totally forgot about the CD I had in my bag (I laboured in the shower mostly anyway). But, maybe you could tell "hubs" that you would like him to be in charge of playing music for you? I have a couple spa-like ones you could borrow if you want!

Receiving blankets for baby. My little man had a bad reaction to the hospital stuff and we needed to use our own blankets. They were nicer anyways!
Oh and if you have BFing pillow then bring that too - I wished I had had mine from the beginning. YAY you are so close!

Definatly the BFing pillow!
Blankets to put over the baby in the carseat. A hat for baby to wear home. Something to write the details of your labour as it happens and a black pen to fill out the forms when you go home.

I'd suggest some feminine pads as well. One of the things baby classes didn't prepare me for was the afterbirth experience you go through. Also if you wear contacts or glasses don't forget those essentials too. I also had my ipod; it was a nice was to zone out when I needed a break.

I thought of another one. Scratch mittens for baby. (the Gagou Tagou ones at BRU are great) They come out with crazy long/sharp nails and scratch their faces.

A swimsuit for your husband so he can get in and out of the shower with you...a plastic water bottle filled and frozen with water to roll up and down your back during contractions...receiving blankets and a warm blanket to put on top of carseat...good luck!!!
